Skimmed milk powder (SMP) is dried skim milk with at most 1.5% fat, at most 5% water and at least 34% protein in the non-fat solids, sold to industry in 25 kg multi-layer bags or 1,000 kg big bags. A West African or North African buyer should fix four things before asking for a price: the heat class (low, medium or high heat), the grade (extra or standard), the shelf life on arrival, and the container size (16 to 18 tonnes in a 20ft, 24 to 25 tonnes in a 40ft dry container). Frozen chicken leg quarters: import guide for Ghana and West Africa
A chicken leg quarter is the whole leg (thigh and drumstick) cut from the carcass with part of the back still attached. It is bone-in and skin-on, sold frozen in 10 kg cartons, and about 26 tonnes net fill a 40ft reefer container. Ghana is the largest buyer in West Africa: in 2025 the European Union alone shipped it about 158,000 tonnes of chicken meat. To import into Ghana you need a Veterinary Services Directorate (VSD) permit, an FDA Ghana import permit, a licensed cold store and an official health certificate from the origin country.
