What you are buying
- The fish: Chilean jack mackerel (Trachurus murphyi), whole round, not gutted. In Chile and Peru it is called "jurel". Like all horse mackerels, it has a harder skin and a line of bony scales (scutes) along the side.
- Size grades: 300–500 g, 500–900 g, 900 g and above. The grade is set in the offer.
- Use: it is a volume fish in Côte d'Ivoire, Cameroon and Ghana, sold fried, smoked or grilled. Buyers often choose it for price-sensitive volume, next to mackerel.
- Supply: the fishery has an annual catch limit set by the South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation (SPRFMO). Chile holds the largest share. The limit was raised for 2026.
- Do not mix it up: jack mackerel is not Atlantic horse mackerel (Trachurus trachurus). They are two species with two separate sheets. Our offers always give the species and its Latin name.
- What to check: glazing and net weight, pieces per kg, the maximum share of undersized fish per carton, and the production date. They are stated in the offer and in the contract.
